Post-Sales What is Smart Trans?
Smart Trans is a web-based vehicle tracking service, is a web-based vehicle tracking service, which enables companies to monitor their vehicles' location across borders - in Singapore and/or Malaysia. The intelligent system utilizes advance technology of Global Positioning System (GPS) and wireless communication (GPRS) to make your business operations more efficient. No heavy investment in system is required.

What is GPS and GPRS?
GPS is a satellite-based system that determines locations of the vehicle, including details like direction and speed, through the use of the 24-satellite Global Positioning System (GPS). GPRS is a wireless communication service offered by the operator that allows the vehicle positioning and smart Trans data to be synchronized back to the web-based application, enabling the traffic controller to obtain the coordinates and display the individual geographical position of each vehicle with the captured telematics information through a Internet-based command centre interactive menu.

Which tracking method does Smart Trans use?
Smart Trans utilises GPS to pinpoint current location of your vehicle.

How do I track my vehicles using Smart Trans?
Your vehicles are tracked using a GPS-enabled Vehicle Command Unit (VCU) that is installed in your vehicle. The VCU provides multiple I/O ports to link to vehicle various sensing points, facilitating telematics data to be captured and transmitted back to the web-based application for monitoring purposes. The vehicle positioning and smart Trans data shall then be synchronized back to the web-based application through an Internet-based command centre interactive menu, obtain the coordinates and display the individual geographical position of each vehicle with the captured telematics information. When you log in to the Smart Trans website, you will see a map of your entire fleet of vehicles, where they are, and the routes taken. You can even zoom into the map for more specific details.

What makes Smart Trans different from other tracking services?
Smart Trans is extremely user-friendly. A simple log in to the website is all you need to do to track your mobile fleet. All your mobile fleet needs is a Vehicle Command Unit (VCU) to be installed in the vehicle. Smart Trans is a subscription based service with advanced features such as live and historical tracking and geoboundary.

How can I benefit from using this Intelligent tracking service?

How long does it need for the whole setting up process once I subscribe to Smart Trans?
Since Smart Trans is a subscription-based service, the whole process is easily deployed.

Am I able to track my vehicles across borders - in Singapore and Malaysia?
Yes, you can. Smart Trans lets you locate your vehicles across borders - in Singapore and Malaysia.

Am I able to track my vehicles overseas (other than Singapore and Malaysia)?
Currently, overseas vehicle tracking (other than Singapore and Malaysia) is still unavailable. However, Smart Trans will continue to improve on its current network, so as to bring better tracking services to our customers.

Can I still track my vehicles if it goes into non-coverage GSM areas?
Yes, the GPS data will be stored on the Vehicle Unit and once GPRS coverage is available, data will be transmitted back to the server. In the case of Singapore, the GSM coverage is comprehensive.

How accurate is the location when viewing on Smart Trans?
Accuracy is relatively high, estimated at 0-200 meters.

How regular can I track my vehicles?
No restriction on the numbers of time the user could track the vehicle as long as the user has internet access, the user could login to check the status and location of the vehicle.

In addition, the interval for the GPS and telematics data for the data to be updated to the server via GPRS can be easily set by the user to suit his requirement eg. tracking interval at 60 seconds interval = data from the vehicle unit will be transmitted via GPRS and update to the server every minute.

Does Smart Trans have anti-hijack features?
Yes. Smart Trans has an optional feature - The Anti-Hijack Vehicle Immobiliser. It is a dedicated device that provides your resources a second line of defence for your vehicles and also the key resources the vehicles are carrying. Upon activation, the signal will be transmitted from the Vehicle Command Unit to the Security Security Control Unit to immobilize the target vehicle e.g. not allowing the re-start of the vehicle.

What is needed if I want to subscribe to Smart Trans?
A GPS-enabled vehicle Command Unit with subscription to wireless data and Smart Track service, and Internet access are all you need to use our Smart Trans Service.

Do I need to install any device in the vehicles?
Yes. Our customer service engineers will install a GPS-enabled vehicle command unit in your vehicles.

Is any hardware requirements on the personal computer?
Yes. The minimum specifications for the personal computer are as follow:

Processor : Pentium IV 1.6 GHz
Memory : 1 GB RAM
Hard disk : 20GB
Monitor : 17" monitor supporting at least 1024 x 768 resolution
Operation System : WinXP
Network : 100Mb Ethernet (Broadband)

On which mobile network is the service available?
Service is available on any GSM/GPRS telco provider network.

Is there any maximum number of vehicles than can be tracked?
There is no restriction on the number of vehicles that can be tracked by the user.

How much does it cost to subscribe to Smart Trans?
The cost of Smart Trans is extremely affordable, with a minimum one time and monthly subscription fee. Subscribers need only be equipped with GPS-enabled vehicle Command Unit and subscribe to wireless data service (from the telcommunication service providers)

Am I eligible to terminate Smart Trans service during the contractual period?
Penalty of S$250 per vehicle unit applies for premature termination of Smart Trans, made payable to NexWave Solutions Pte Ltd.

Who should I contact if I want to subscribe to Smart Trans?

Can I add landmark (customer or competitor address) on the map and set automatic alert when the vehicle is near the zone?
User cannot add landmark on the digital map. However, the user could use geoboundary function to mark and zone the area of concern.

How can I set geo-boundary?
Yes. You may set geo-boundary by moving the mouse over Settings and click on Geo-boundary. You may then select the location to be bounded by searching via postal codes, road names or building names.

Can I track or receive alert notification via SMS?
You can receive alert notification via SMS, but you cannot track vehicle via mobile phone through SMS.

What is SMS alert?
SMS alert is an optional feature which customer needs to specify their request if they require this feature. Customer needs to furnish the details to NexWave to activate and set the SMS alert recipients into the system.

How is SMS alert being set?
The customer may set the SMS alert online via Smart Trans. The type of alerts includes start/end job, geo-boundary and speed limit alert.

What is the maximum number of people in a company that can receive the SMS alert?
The maximum number of people in a company that can receive the SMS alert is 2.

How is the speed limit and distance traveled being measured?
The speed limit and distance traveled are measured by GPS and derivation is proprietary algorithm.

I cannot view the map when I logged in. Why?
A plug-in activeX programme is required. Follow the instruction given via the pop-up screens and get the ActiveX installed. You should be able to view the map after installation of the ActiveX.

How long will the history report be stored in Smart Trans?
The history report will be stored in Smart Trans for up to a period of 30 days.

What are the standard information that is captured in Vehicle History Report?
The standard information captured in the vehicle history report are plate number, driver name, time stamp, speed, direction and road name. Should customer require additional fields such as geo-boundary or ignition status, it must be specified during the sign-up, before the hardware has been installed in the vehicle.

There is no travel report for selected vehicle (e.g. GB123T). Why?
- Check that the tracking interval is properly set under configuration.
- Check that the vehicle Info is correct, e.g. vehicle no. & date
- Ensure that the data selected is less than 3 months ago
- The vehicle may not be within GPS coverage
- Check that in-vehicle black box is not being tempered with.

Can I download history report to excel?
Yes. You may download history report to excel format by moving your mouse to the reports table, right click and select "export to excel".

How can I personalize the driver or vehicle information?
You may personalize the driver or vehicle information by selecting fleet information and then enter the necessary data.

Can I open 2 Internet browsers and view Smart Trans over both browsers concurrently?
No. You are unable to open 2 Internet browsers and view Smart Trans over both browsers concurrently due to security issues

What is the maximum number of user IDs allocated per company?
The maximum number of user IDs allocated per company is 2.

My vehicle has been inactive for more than 30 days and the battery may be drained. Will I still be able to track my vehicle?
You may not be able to track your vehicle if your vehicle has been inactive for more than 30 days as the battery may be drained. You may contact our technical hotline at 64884176 and our technical service engineer will re-connect the Vehicle Command Unit on the scheduled date and time arranged.

How can I change tracking Interval?
You may change the tracking Interval by moving the mouse over Settings and click on Track Settings. You may then select the vehicle and edit the tracking Interval accordingly.

What does the one-time setup fee covers?
It includes the following: 1) Supply & installation of GPS receiver (VCU)
2) Configuration & testing of VCU
3) Web-based application setup & configuration (software and digital map network)

What does the monthly service subscription fee cover?
It covers the provision of web-based GPS vehicle monitoring system via Internet and maintenance support for GPS hardware, including firmware upgrade (if any).

What is included in the maintenance support?
One year warranty on the vehicle unit. Firmware upgrade (if applicable). Customer support on the physical hardware device. User backend host application and hardware support, which includes LAN setup, 3rd party software, servers, RAS, routers are NOT included in the maintenance support, unless specified in the proposal document
